Abstract

The Aegean regions in general, and Greece in particular, were exposed to several disturbances due to the attempt of some powerful kings at that historical stage, especially the Macedonian King Philip V and the Seleucid King Antiochus, to expand at the expense of those regions by force of arms, which necessitated the intervention of external forces lurking in Rome, which quickly It did not respond to the distress call launched by Rhodes and the Kingdom of Pergamum. Rome did not respond to this call arbitrarily. Rather, there was a goal and an ambition that it sought, which was to have a foothold in the region, to impose its economic autonomy over the sea lanes, and to control the commercial centers that... It attracts the trade of the ancient world to it, especially the trade of wheat, which Rome eagerly seeks to succeed. Indeed, Rome obtained what it wanted after fighting several battles in Greece, inflicting successive defeats on the King of Macedonia, Philip V, who was forced to acknowledge its autonomy over the region, and ended up conquering the regions of the eastern Mediterranean. Fighting fierce battles against the Seleucid Kingdom, the most important of which was the Battle of Magnesia, which later determined the fate of the Seleucid Kingdom. Rome inflicted a terrible defeat on it, forcing it to be confined and limit its political influence within certain regions in the ancient Near East and some regions of Mesopotamia.
