Abstract
The kidney in its normal state filters and purifies the blood of nitrogenous waste and
toxins through urine as well the kidney balances the ratio of salt and water, the kidney
might suffer from dysfunction, normally due to illnesses such as diabetes and
hypertension, and dialysis is considered a supportive treatment for those who suffer
from sever kidney dysfunction where it provides an artificial alternative.
The kidney failure patients who go through dialysis contract hepatitis which it poses
a threat to their lives. Since there is no study about the infection of the kidney failure
patients who go through dialysis, of hepatitis in the region so this study aims to
evaluate the effect of the dialysis and possibility of patients contracting and
transmitting the hepatitis of the two types (HBV, HCV).
The study incorporates 102 patients of kidney failure who go through dialysis two
and three times per week in dialysis center of AZZAWIA, and the results showed
that 16 patients from two sexes have contracted the two types of hepatitis the HB
and HCV where 14 among them are infected with the HC and 2 patients who are
infected with HB and HC together, also it shows by the results that the patients who
went through dialysis for a long period of time and many times, are the most infected
with the virus and the main reason of the infection is the repeated exposure to dialysis
equipment, as well the results showed that there is a relation between the sex and the
infection with the virus where the percentage of females who are infected with the
virus is 13.7% which is higher than that of the males which is 2.0%.
