Abstract
This research is based on the statement of the concept of intentionality, which is one of the most important criteria in pragmatic studies, and is also a methodological basis upon which rhetorical studies of discourse, especially the Qur'anic discourse, are based. The research seeks to root intentionality in the rhetorical heritage, and to highlight the efforts of our scholars in analyzing texts according to this concept, which is considered one of the foundations of the theory of verbal acts emanating from the pragmatic theory, through the interpretation of Al-Alusi (the spirit of meanings), which took intentionality as an approach that he followed in his rhetorical analysis. The research concluded with the most important results: that intentionality is one of the most important clues that help in understanding the Quranic discourse, and the context is a prerequisite for understanding the Quranic discourse and reaching its intention, and that deliberative mechanisms can be used in studying and analyzing the Quranic systems in proportion to its sanctity.
