Abstract

text to reach the reader by searching for the deep structure, which George Yule divided into three sections: personal deixis, spatial deixis, and temporal deixis. Some scholars have added rhetorical and social deixis to these sections as important topics in pragmatic linguistics. This research aims to study deixis in the poetry of Nusayb ibn Rabi'ah, analyzing the poetic discourse according to pragmatic analysis requirements to identify the types of deixis present in his poetry, how the poet employed them, and to what extent these pragmatic deictic elements contributed to shaping his poetic discourse, achieving communicative coherence between the discourse parties, and revealing contextual pragmatic meanings by determining their references to decode and interpret them appropriately within the utterance context to understand the true intentions that the poet aimed for by employing different types of deixis in his poetry.
