Abstract

This study aims to examine the mutual cultural influences between Arab and Spanish cultures. It sheds light on the cultural interactions between Arab and Spanish civilizations, particularly during the Islamic presence in the٤ Iberian Peninsula, which lasted for approximately eight centuries. During that time, Spain was considered a beacon of civilization, thanks to the Arabic language, which became the dominant language of science and literature in Andalusia. The reason behind choosing this topic is to uncover the cultural influences in the fields of literature and creativity, whether Arabs influenced others or were themselves influenced. This includes the importance of the Arabic cultural framework in enriching European culture, particularly during the era of the European Renaissance, through serious attempts to clarify concepts and reveal the full value of the Arab-Andalusian heritage. The study is divided into three main sections preceded by an introduction that outlines the objectives of the research, the reason for its selection, its importance, and the methodology followed. It concludes with a summary that includes the most important findings, among which are: The Arabic language is a vessel of Arab culture and Islamic civilization. It is not foreign to the Spanish language, which borrowed many words, phrases, and expressions from it. Arabic influenced Spanish in terms of vocabulary richness, stylistic diversity, elegance of expression, smoothness of pronunciation, literary beauty, and musical rhythm—especially during the early stages of contact.
