Abstract

This research paper examines the linguistic rules that define the standards of correctness and error in language usage. It also explores the emergence of linguistic deviation, the concept of correctness and error, the linguistic correction movement, linguistic correction books, and the criteria for linguistic accuracy. Through an analysis of linguistic studies on deviation, it became evident that linguists have relied on several principles to determine correctness and error. These principles were used by linguists and grammarians in compiling linguistic terms, formulating linguistic rules, and establishing grammatical regulations. Undoubtedly, scholars' reliance on these principles is a necessity dictated by the scientific research methodology, which requires researchers to base their work on evidence to ensure logical coherence and persuasive argumentation.
