Verbal collocation and its role in enriching the Arabic language and diversifying meanings

Abstract

This research addresses the phenomenon of homonymy (al-Mushtarak al- Lafthi) in the Arabic language, which is a distinctive feature that enriches the language and diversifies its meanings. The study aims to analyze the precise concept of homonymy, trace its causes, and examine its relation to the development of the Arabic language over time. It also explores the impact of this phenomenon on interpreting legal and literary texts, particularly in light of the scholarly debate surrounding it. The research provides a critical analysis of different perspectives, focusing on practical solutions to reduce the ambiguity caused by homonymy. The study employs multiple methodologies, including descriptive, historical, and critical analyses, offering a comprehensive understanding of this linguistic phenomenon.
