A Critical Review of the Draft "Law on the Protection of Women from Violence" Presented to the Libyan Parliament Since July 2022

Abstract

The Draft Law on the Protection of Women from Violence was drafted and submitted to the Libyan Parliament in July 2022, and it remains under parliamentary review as of the date of this study. The draft law provides a definition of violence and enumerates certain forms thereof, in addition to stipulating preventive measures, procedural regulations, and penal provisions to address it. This study offers a critical legal analysis of the draft law, examining deficiencies and inconsistencies within its provisions and anticipating the legal and social repercussions of its implementation, should it be enacted, on both the family unit and society as a whole
