Abstract

The aim of the research was to explore academic freedom and its impact on scientific research, through four main areas: understanding the effect of academic freedom on students' academic performance in educational institutions, the role of faculty members in promoting academic freedom and its impact on students' performance, how promoting academic freedom contributes to improving innovation and critical thinking among students, and finally, the main barriers that limit the exercise of academic freedom and its negative effect on academic performance. The descriptive approach was followed as it is suitable for the nature of the research. The research reached the following results: -Academic freedom enhances students' academic performance by encouraging critical thinking and independence, while its absence leads to a decline in academic performance. -The role of faculty members in promoting academic freedom contributes to improving students' academic performance by encouraging critical thinking and independence. However, restricting this freedom leads to a decline in the ability to think independently and weakens academic performance. -Promoting academic freedom enhances critical thinking and innovation among students by providing an educational environment that encourages free expression and interaction with other ideas, thus contributing to the development of their skills and motivating them to think outside the box. -Social and political restrictions, along with resistance from some faculty members and students, pose barriers to the practice of academic freedom, negatively affecting academic performance and limiting the development of critical thinking and innovation skills.
