The results of the study showed that, from their own perspective, the students' most prominent motivations for using mobile phone applications were to easily obtain information, for scientific research purposes, and for entertainment. The most prominent gratifications were to increase their knowledge, help them interact with others, fill their free time, and relieve boredom. The study recommended the need to hold awareness seminars for university students on the proper use of their smart devices, as well as to leverage modern communications technology for communication between students, administration, and professors to exchange curricula and scientific research. Furthermore, it was necessary to guide university students towards making the most of their free time by motivating and encouraging them to engage in sports and recreational activities, such as exercising in sports clubs.
