Assessing the level of knowledge and application of undergraduate students' knowledge and application of scientific investigation skills
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to assess the level of knowledge and application of scientific research skills among undergraduate students, by analyzing theoretical concepts and reviewing relevant literature and previous studies, without conducting any field-based component. The study adopts a theoretical descriptive-analytical approach to examine how research methodology is taught in Arab universities and to identify the core skills that undergraduate students should acquire as novice researchers. The findings indicate a clear gap between students' theoretical understanding and their practical application of research skills, particularly in areas such as problem formulation, methodology selection, data analysis, and proper citation. Previous studies also revealed weak practical engagement in research methodology courses and the absence of objective evaluation of students' actual research competencies. The study concludes with several recommendations, notably the integration of applied activities within research courses and the creation of supportive environments that foster ethical and systematic research practice.
