Scientific Theses Approved by the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems, Faculty of Arts and Languages, University of Tripoli - A Bibliometric Study

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the trends of approved scientific theses from the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems، Faculty of Arts، University of Tripoli، by monitoring the thematic، temporal and qualitative trends of theses to form a clear picture of the research topics addressed by the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems، which shows their strengths and weaknesses. The bibliometric approach was used as a method for the study، and tools were used to collect data، including lists of scientific theses in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems and direct review of those theses to collect their data. The study concluded that the number of approved theses reached 232 scientific theses، including 172 master’s theses and 60 doctoral theses، representing 74% and 26% respectively. The year 2013 was the highest in the number of approved scientific theses، with 18 scientific theses، representing 7.75%، and the most discussed topics were in the Human Geography Department، which reached 143 topics، representing 62%
