Abstract
The preferred (rajīḥ) scholarly opinion regarding transformations of substances - in all three of their types - is that they purify (i.e., istiḥāla is a purifying). Based on this, it is permissible to use substances that were originally impure (ʿayn najis) or that had become impure, but whose characteristic of impurity has disappeared due to complete transformation, whether in everyday habits or in medical treatment/vaccination. This preferred view removes a great deal of doubt, wards off much hardship, and lifts considerable restriction from people - especially with regard to using and consuming the many manufactured materials that have become widespread and unavoidable in our time, particularly food products and medicines.
