Abstract

Palestinian media and the national narrative discourse constitute the first line of defense in the battle of consciousness against the Israeli occupation, exposing its crimes, documenting its violations, and unveiling the falsity of its historical claims. This study is grounded in the understanding that the struggle over consciousness is no less critical than the struggle over land, as the occupation seeks to reconstruct history and reality to serve its colonial project, countered by expanding Palestinian efforts to affirm the truth and safeguard collective memory.

The paper adopts a critical analytical methodology, supported by field case studies and content analysis of samples from Palestinian audiovisual and digital media production over the past five years, including live coverage from Gaza, documentary works, and digital narrative initiatives. Furthermore, it examines selected works of Palestinian fiction as integral components of the national narrative discourse, highlighting their role in preserving collective memory and resisting erasure—focusing particularly on the novel Atyaf (Specters) as a creative model that documents the Palestinian experience and embodies its human and national dimensions.

The paper addresses three main themes:

1.Media as a Tool of Epistemic Resistance: Utilizing media technologies and digital platforms to expose on-the-ground violations and document war crimes through sound and image.

2.The Palestinian Narrative Discourse: The role of folktales, personal testimonies, memoirs, and visual narratives in affirming identity and dismantling the Zionist narrative, with emphasis on the documentary value of literary works.

3.Challenges and Opportunities: Obstacles facing Palestinian media—from restrictions on press freedom to the physical targeting of journalists—versus the opportunities provided by modern technologies and the transnational digital sphere.

The study concludes that Palestinian media and narrative discourse form a strategic pillar in confronting the occupation at the level of international legitimacy. A systematic investment in these fields could enhance the global reach of the Palestinian cause and establish a national archival record for future generations.
