One of the most prominent types within this topic is when a sentence occupies the position of a verbal noun (maṣdar), that is, when a verbal, nominal, or other type of sentence conveys the meaning of an explicit maṣdar in both structure and meaning, thus rendering the sentence one that has a syntactic positionÆ

Al-Raḍī says: “A sentence having a syntactic position does not necessarily require that it be interpreted as a single word; rather, it means that it occurs in a position where a single word could validly occur ”Æ
