The Role of Development Policies in Reducing Poverty

Abstract

The role of sustainable human development policies in poverty reduction is considered a strategically important issue in contemporary development studies, given that poverty represents a major obstacle to development at both the local and international levels. The research was based on a fundamental question: how do sustainable development policies contribute to tackling poverty and ensuring justice between present and future generations? The study adopted a descriptive and analytical desk-based approach, addressing concepts and terms related to sustainable human development and poverty, and reviewed a number of relevant previous local and Arab studies, focusing on the similarities and differences in results and methodological approaches The results showed that sustainable human development is an integrated process carried out by state institutions and civil society, aimed at building the capacities of individuals and guaranteeing human rights, while achieving a balance between the exploitation of natural resources and their conservation. The study also concluded that poverty is not merely an economic phenomenon, but a comprehensive human challenge facing all peoples, which requires the development of clear, implementable development strategies that are rooted in the local reality. The research concluded that the responsibility for eradicating poverty lies primarily with the state through the formulation of integrated national programmes based on comprehensive development plans, while promoting community participation and raising awareness of the importance of sustainability through educational and media institutions. The recommendations focused on a set of practical measures, the most important of which are: linking development policies to social and economic realities, promoting community awareness of the role of sustainable development in the third millennium, and developing clear national plans to combat poverty.
