Communication and Interaction within the Educational Environment
Main Article Content
Abstract
of the Research on Communication and Interaction within the Educational Environment Educational communication is considered one of the contemporary sociological issues in the educational field and in daily practices within the school. It reflects the interaction among the various components of the educational environment. The teacher is one of the most important elements of the educational process and is the direct influence on the pupil or student. The better the teacher communicates with them, the more successful they become in shaping their character—and vice versa. However, it is noticeable that students suffer from a large number of problems whose effects may persist into adulthood, such as psychological disorders, weak personality, lack of self-confidence, and at times psychosomatic illnesses. These issues may result from the teacher’s lack of understanding of the pupil or student, or from the use of verbal and non-verbal violence, and poor communication. Such practices undermine the educational process and prevent the learner from benefiting and being properly formed both educationally and pedagogically. This motivated us—as individuals concerned first with the younger generation and second with the educational process—to study this topic based on the following questions: Why are teachers in our society unable to communicate effectively with learners despite the presence of favorable conditions? Why has the educational environment become unable to attract learners and instead turned into a repelling environment? What role do effective communication and constructive interaction play in ensuring the success of the educational and pedagogical process in our schools? These are the issues this research addresses. Research Objectives • To identify the role of educational communication and its impact on the success of the educational process. • To recognize the teacher’s essential role through understanding the developmental characteristics and personality types of learners. • To examine the teacher’s pedagogical role and the strategies used in dealing with learners. • To highlight the importance of the educational environment and the communication among its components, and to emphasize mechanisms that foster a scientific atmosphere characterized by love, belonging, and commitment to the educational institution, to knowledge, and to the nation. Recommendations Based on the findings presented in this research, the following recommendations have been reached:1. Proper preparation of teachers—academically, professionally, and pedagogically—through the development of teacher-training curricula, with emphasis on courses that enable teachers to deal effectively with learners of different personality types and according to their academic and psychological needs. 2. Improving verbal and non-verbal communication skills and giving attention to body language in general. 3. Providing continuous training for teachers, particularly in pedagogical matters and strategies for dealing with learners at various levels. 4. Activating the role of educational supervision and guidance to monitor and direct teachers’ performance. 5. Giving attention to the educational environment—with all its human and material components—in order to create a safe and attractive setting for learners. 6. Utilizing the media to raise awareness about the importance of pedagogical interaction with learners, to address educational and pedagogical problems in schools through study and dialogue, and to educate families about their role in upbringing and strengthening their contribution to the intellectual and academic development of their children.
