Characteristics of Semantic Development in the Doha Historical Dictionary

Abstract

This research paper addresses the characteristics of semantic evolution in the Doha Historical Dictionary of Arabic, which is considered an important reference for documenting linguistic heritage. The research presents concepts related to semantic evolution, the factors influencing it, and its most important manifestations, providing applied examples that illustrate this development. The dictionary tracks the changes in the meanings of words over time. The research concludes that studying semantic evolution is key to understanding language as a living, changing entity, and the Doha Historical Dictionary of Arabic is an essential tool for this study. Therefore, studying the Doha Historical Dictionary and its semantic developments represents a significant step in the progress of linguistic and cultural scientific research.
