Abstract

This research addresses the "irate self" in the poetry of Jarīr ibn ‘Aṭiyya, one of the most prominent poets of the Umayyad era. This is manifested in his renowned satirical ode, "Al-Dāmigha," through which he lampooned the Banū Numayr tribe. The irate self appears in this poem through several manifestations, and accordingly, the research has been divided into a preface that discusses the irate self and the event, followed by an exploration of its psychological and artistic representations .The study of the psychological manifestations of the irate self in the ode is conducted through three sections. The first section covers the psychological aspects and the artistic form of the poem, represented by: (a) the irate self and the poem's title, (b) the irate self and the poem's opening, (c) the irate self and the poem's theme, and (d) the irate self and the poem's conclusion. The second section examines the irate self and its archetypes within the poem's artistic imagery, which is divided into: (a) the image of the sarcastic self, (b) the image of the transcendent self, and (c) the image of the dominant self .The third section studies the most significant artistic techniques through which the irate self was manifested, namely: (a) the stylistic methods of command and interrogation, and (b) the stylistic method of repetition.
