Reasons for Libyan youth's reluctance to marry - A field study of young people in the city of Janzour

Abstract
Given the nature and scale of the problem, which negatively affects the lives of individuals, families and society, threatens stability and hinders social development, social, economic and other factors continue to be the most prominent reasons for young people's reluctance to marry and their commitment to celibacy. The study aimed to identify the various reasons and factors influencing the reluctance of Libyan youth to marry. The study concluded that the reasons for the reluctance of Libyan youth to marry are economic factors, such as low income, the housing crisis, and the high cost of living. This is followed by psychological factors, such as fears about the responsibility of having and caring for children, and a lack of trust in women after marriage due to the widespread phenomenon of divorce. The burdens of married life are also a factor, such as young people's reluctance to marry those they desire due to parental opposition and suffering from chronic illnesses. Finally, there are social factors contributing to Libyan youth's reluctance to marry, such as the need to achieve job security in order to provide adequate expenses after marriage, the loss of parents, and older siblings shirking responsibility for their younger siblings. There are no statistically significant differences in the reasons for Libyan youth's reluctance to marry due to age, educational level, or monthly income. The researcher recommended that families facilitate marriage for their children, not exaggerate dowries, and reduce marriage requirements. He also recommended that the state contribute to the construction of housing units and distribute them to young people who are about to marry.
