Economic changes in the Tripoli region during the British administration period between 1943 and 1950 AD
Main Article Content
Abstract
The region of Tripoli witnessed remarkable economic changes in the period preceding the arrival of the British administration, especially during the Italian era from (1911) to (1943). During its period of control, Italy tried to transform the region into an economic and agricultural base that served its colonial objectives, which left prominent structural effects that were clearly reflected on the Libyan economy in subsequent periods.
In particular, we find some residents, especially in rural areas, who depend on agriculture and herding. However, the Italian government worked to redistribute agricultural lands, as companies and Italians seized vast areas of fertile land, especially in the countryside, including, for example, Al-Jafara, where they forced the local owners of those farms to work as laborers on Italian farms.
