Evaluation of urban growth trends in the city of Ajdabiya for the period (2000-2022)

Abstract

The phenomenon of urban growth constitutes a heavy burden on planners and decision makers because it is steadily increasing, which threatens the natural ecosystem around cities due to the increasing population and economic growth. Interest has increased in studying it as it has become one of the most important issues affecting the sustainability of land uses in cities by harnessing modern technologies in this field. Such as remote sensing and geographic information systems, as it is one of the most important methods used to assess and measure this phenomenon quantitatively and temporally, hence the aim of the study to clarify the urban expansion that occurred in the urban mass for the period (2002-2022) and to clarify the extent of this expansion, its proportions and its directions, and the results of the study showed that The size of the urban expansion of the city of Ajdabiya reached (156%) between the years (2000-2022), and the urban trends varied during the same period.
