Abstract

Through this research, the researcher concluded the following: That interpolation is one of the issues of hadith criticism that scholars of hadith criticism addressed through understanding, practice, and experience. That scholars were able to distinguish between the words of the Prophet and his teachings, and the words of others, whether Companions, Followers, or those of lesser rank. The importance of this type of hadith science lies in the scholars' meticulous attention to distinguishing the hadith of the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) from the hadith of others. Therefore, they dedicated a separate section to it, distinct from the other various hadith sciences. Modern scholars have been able to determine that inserted words have motives and reasons, and they have identified many of them. For example: Explaining or deriving a legal ruling, or explaining an unfamiliar word in a hadith, or clarifying something in a hadith. This insertion, from a narrator other than the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), caused confusion for the mistaken, who then attributed it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him.) Therefore, insertion is a cause for changing the context of a hadith, whether in its chain of narrators or its text. For this reason, scholars have taken a firm stance against it, and considered inserted words a type of defective hadith. The researcher concluded that insertion takes several forms: Insertion to clarify a meaning of the hadith This is somewhat permissible. Insertion that occurs unintentionally by the narrator is not blameworthy, unless the error is frequent, in which case it impugns the narrator's accuracy and precision. Insertion that occurs intentionally by the narrator is forbidden because it involves deception and misrepresentation. Al-Albani is one of the contemporary scholars who focused on understanding insertion in the text and clarified it to distinguish it from the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him
