Abstract
The Most Poetic Verses of the Arabs: A Rhetorical and Critical Study
Research Summary: This study will attempt, through the use of rhetorical terminology, to identify:
- The rhetorical criteria for selecting the best verse, whether in terms of simile, metonymy, metaphor, or other criteria.
- The critical criteria for determining the most poetic verse, whether in terms of diction and meaning, natural talent and artistry, or other criteria.
Some of the terms selected for this study are:
1. Rhetorical question
2. Rhetorical resumption
3. Simile
4. Metaphor
5. Metonymy
6. Hyperbole
