The Role of the University in Meeting Sustainable Development Requirements and Ways to Activate Them from the Perspective of Faculty Members at University of Tripoli

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the level of practice of the University of Tripoli in meeting the requirements of sustainable development from the perspective of faculty members. It also sought to examine whether there are statistically significant differences in the degree of the university’s practice attributable to the variables of years of experience and academic specialization. In addition, the study aimed to explore ways to activate the role of Al-Asmariya Islamic University in fulfilling sustainable development requirements from the viewpoints of faculty members.


The study sample consisted of (121) faculty members. To achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive research method was employed due to its suitability for the nature of the study. The results revealed that the level of the University of Tripoli’s practice in meeting sustainable development requirements was low across all dimensions of sustainable development from the perspective of faculty members. The dimensions were ranked according to the degree of practice as follows: technological dimension first, followed by the social dimension, then the economic dimension, and finally the environmental dimension.


Furthermore, the findings indicated that faculty members’ perceptions of the university’s role in meeting sustainable development requirements varied according to academic specialization and years of experience.
