The Impact of Tribalism on Political Participation in Libya After 2011
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the impact of tribal structures on political participation in Libya after 2011, in the context of post-authoritarian transition and state fragility. It argues that the weakening of central state institutions increased tribal influence over electoral behavior, political alliances, and legitimacy formation. Using a descriptive-analytical and systems analysis approach, the study finds that tribes played a dual role: facilitating political mobilization while simultaneously reinforcing traditional loyalties over institutional democratic practices. The future of political participation in Libya depends largely on restructuring the relationship between tribal structures and state institutions within an inclusive national framework.
