Preferring Grammatical Interpretations in Al-Hariri’s Grammatical Maqama In Light of Grammatical Evidence (An Analytical Study)

Abstract

This research deals with the preference of grammatical interpretations in Al-Hariri’s grammatical maqama in light of grammatical evidence, through an analytical study of selected examples from it, to reveal the possible grammatical interpretations in it, and the grammatical evidence that influences their direction and preference of some over others. The research adopted the descriptive analytical method, through describing and analyzing the grammatical interpretations, and comparing them in light of the grammatical rules and the evidence that influences them.

The application showed that the multiplicity of grammatical interpretations does not mean that they are equal in strength, and that the preference of one of them may be based on the factor, the order, the verbal evidence, the context, the meaning, the hearing, and the usage. These evidences may also combine to direct the most likely interpretation.

The research concluded that the grammatical maqama represents a suitable field for studying grammatical preference, and revealing the interaction between the grammatical rule and the evidence accompanying the structure in the literary text.
