Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of the present study was to identify the nature of the relationship between psychological well-being and academic aspiration amongst a sample of students at the Higher Institute of Health in the city of Ajdabiya, and to reveal differences in both psychological well-being and academic aspiration according to the variables of gender, age and specialisation. The study adopted a descriptive correlational approach due to its suitability for the nature and objectives of the study. The sample comprised 112 students from the Higher Institute of Health in Ajdabiya, selected at random. To collect data, the study utilised scales measuring psychological well-being and academic aspiration, which were developed following a review of a number of previous studies relevant to the research topic, including the study by Al-Obeidi (2019) and the study by Al-Mazloum (2010), and reformulated to suit the research objectives and the nature of the research environment. A range of statistical methods, namely arithmetic means, standard deviations, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, the t-test for two independent samples, one-way ANOVA, and the Scheffe test for post-hoc comparisons. The results of the study revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between psychological well-being and academic aspiration among the sample participants. It also showed that students at the Higher Institute of Health in Ajdabiya enjoy a high level of psychological well-being and a high level of academic aspiration. The results showed no statistically significant differences in psychological well-being attributable to the variables of gender and age, whilst statistically significant differences were found attributable to the variable of specialisation. The results also indicated no statistically significant differences in academic aspiration attributable to the variables of gender, age and specialisation.
