Expert Systems and the Development of Information Services

Abstract

This study aims to introduce the concept of expert systems, highlighting their importance, objectives, benefits, and their role in providing information services to users in the era of the digital revolution, which has transformed all knowledge and service sectors. This transformation has enabled information professionals to benefit from expert systems by utilizing their expertise to improve and develop information services for users. The application of expert systems in various fields of life has contributed significantly to the technological and scientific advancements witnessed today at different levels. Therefore, greater attention should be given to expert systems, their fields of application, the stages involved in building an expert system, and its main components. The development of an expert system generally passes through three main stages: the planning stage, the design and construction stage, and the development stage. An expert system typically consists of several essential components, including the knowledge base, the inference engine, the user interface, and the database.
