University Students’ Absenteeism from Lectures and Its Relationship with University Teaching Methods: A Field Study at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Qasr Al-Akhyar

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the phenomenon of university students’ absenteeism from attending lectures, which has become an increasingly prevalent challenge in higher education institutions due to its negative impact on the teaching–learning process and its outcomes. The study seeks to identify the main reasons behind students’ reluctance to attend lectures, with a particular focus on the role of university instructors’ teaching styles as one of the influential factors contributing to this phenomenon. The research was conducted on students of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in Qasr Al-Akhyar, adopting a descriptive analytical approach to describe the phenomenon, collect relevant data, and analyze and interpret the findings. The results indicate that traditional teaching methods, limited classroom interaction, and insufficient consideration of individual differences among students are among the most prominent factors leading to students’ absenteeism. The study recommends the development of university teaching methods, the enhancement of classroom interaction, and the adoption of modern instructional strategies that contribute to increasing students’ motivation and improving their commitment to lecture attendance.
