The Interrogative Sentence in the Poetry of Khalid Zaghabia

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of the interrogative sentence in the poetic works of the Libyan poet Khalid Zaghabia, who is considered one of the prominent poetic voices in modern Libyan literature. The research aims to reveal the artistic, semantic, and aesthetic dimensions that the interrogative sentence adds to his poetic texts, and how it contributes to building his poetic world and shaping his visions.
The interrogative sentence is a rich rhetorical and linguistic tool that transcends its traditional function of seeking information to play multiple roles in poetic discourse, such as expressing surprise, denial, assertion, wish, or even irony. Within the context of Khalid Zaghabia's poetry, this study seeks to analyze his use of this tool, both at the level of linguistic structure and at the level of the profound meaning it carries in his various poetic contexts. This study employs a descriptive-analytical approach, tracing the use of interrogative sentences in the poet's collected works and classifying them according to their rhetorical purposes and contextual significance. It also attempts to connect this usage to the general characteristics of Zaghbiya's poetic style, which is marked by symbolism and repetition, thus opening avenues for a deeper understanding of how these elements interact with the interrogative structure.
This study is expected to enrich the Arabic critical library by offering an in-depth reading of an important aspect of the linguistic structure in Khalid Zaghbiya's poetry and highlighting his mastery in using the interrogative sentence as an artistic device that enhances the aesthetics of his text and deepens its message.
