Semantic Specification of the Declarative Sentence: Surah Al-Kahf as a Case Study "A Grammatical-Semantic Study"

Abstract

Researchers in linguistics view the phenomenon of semantic evolution as something that has existed, in one form or another, since the dawn of human thought. Language is a social act of speech whose elements operate across various linguistic levels during performance—the semantic level being one of the most prominent. Semantic specialization and generalization are key manifestations of this evolution. This study examines the phenomenon of semantic specialization within declarative sentences, exploring its concept, grammatical mechanisms, and its role in directing and narrowing meaning. The study draws upon practical examples from *Surah Al-Kahf* to derive linguistic and rhetorical insights and to demonstrate how specialization highlights the intended meanings of the Quranic discourse.
