Economic Transformations and the Commercial Structure of Libyan Markets and Cities during the British Administration (1943–1951) and Their Impact on the Economic Situation

Abstract

This study examines the economic transformations and the commercial structure of Libyan markets and cities during the British Administration (1943–1951). This period represented an important historical stage marked by significant economic and commercial changes that affected economic activities and the movement of goods in Libyan cities. The study aims to identify the conditions of the Libyan economy during this period, trace the major economic transformations, analyze the development of markets and commercial centers, and examine the impact of the British Administration on domestic and foreign trade. The study adopts a historical and descriptive-analytical approach to trace developments and analyze the main features of economic and commercial change. It seeks to clarify the relationship between economic transformations and the development of the commercial structure of Libyan cities prior to the establishment of the independent Libyan state in 1951.
