Abstract
The territory of the Western Mountain Brigade is located in the area extending from the Tunisian border in the southwest to the Kikla region in the east, between approximately 20 and 25 degrees north of the equator. The nineteenth century witnessed a number of radical changes in the structure of Libyan society, especially after the Ottoman Empire re-established its direct control over Libyan society. The climate of political stability within the Ottoman state encouraged the Ottomans to work on developing aspects of political and administrative life.
