Group Discussion as an Effective Strategy in Learning
Contenu principal de l'article
Résumé
The aim of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between student participation in classroom interaction and their achievement. This paper discusses the importance of the implementation of group discussion activity as an active learning in a Libyan university. Not only the paper elucidates the importance of group discussion but it also identifies how it is important because traditional lectures focus on “transmitting knowledge rather than promoting student engagement through active learning”. (Abushina, 2017) Students usually learn more when they are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning. Their engagement and participation in the process of learning are increased and motivated through asking questions, sharing opinions and ideas with either their teachers or peers as well as a rise in their self-confidence. In addition, the paper suggests the importance of teachers’ awareness to apply interactive teaching techniques so that students get a chance for better learning.
