Abstract
Amidst the noticeable changes affecting the environment and human health, signs of climate change have become evident, accompanied by the emergence of unknown diseases, increased resistance among certain insects, and the death of others. Additionally, animals are suffering from health issues, even if they manage to survive, they often carry diseases that pose a direct threat to humans. In this context, it is crucial to address one of the major causes of environmental pollution: plastic waste. The lack of public awareness about the consequences of plastic use whether as direct preservatives for consumables or in industrial processes coupled with the significant risks associated with its incineration, exacerbates the problem. In this research, after presenting the problem and objectives, we examine how and why the ecological system becomes disrupted, including the factors contributing to this disruption. We then provide an overview of plastic waste and its types, followed by a discussion on the general harms caused by plastic waste. The focus is then directed to plastic waste in Libya, including a brief overview of the situation, methods of disposal, and potential benefits. Finally, the research concludes with results and recommendations.
