Abstract

This research, entitled "Motives for Renewal in Qur'anic Interpretation" sheds light on the real reasons that drive interpreters to renew their interpretation of the Book of Allah, the conditions for renewal and the conditions for interpreters, the controls of this renewal, and the most important motives for it, as well as the opinions of scholars on renewal and examples of modern innovators in Quranic interpretation. The problem with studying renewal in Quranic interpretation is that there are motives behind this renewal, and it is these motives that enable us to distinguish between true renewal and deviation from Islamic principles. The research aims to identify the correct concept of renewal in Quranic interpretation, the conditions for renewal and the conditions for the interpreter, and to examine the statements of scholars on renewal, highlighting the most important motives for renewal in interpretation and identifying the most important trends in renewal in interpretation in the modern era. The methodology used in this research is descriptive and analytical One of the most important findings of this study is that renewal does not mean losing sight of the true interpretation and destroying the old under the pretext of renewal. Therefore, it was necessary to establish controls and precautions for dealing with the Book of Allah, given its sanctity and greatness, and that renewal does not in fact mean changing. The facts of religion, nor does it mean distorting or fabricating the texts of the Sharia, nor does it mean introducing something new into religion or innovating in it. Rather, it means knowing what is constant and what is changeable, and applying them to different situations, taking into account the circumstances and the need of Islamic societies for correct and disciplined renewal, which is a requirement in all sciences, and especially in Sharia sciences and Quranic studies, especially Qur'anic exegesis, given the apparent shortcomings in the religiosity of many people, whether due to laxity or extremism in religion, which is contrary to renewal. The innovator in exegesis must also be familiar with the principles and rules of exegesis, and must interpret the meanings of the verses as they were used at the time of their revelation and by the early generations, and beware of the influence of distorted concepts, so that they can know the areas of renewal, its limits and controls, as well as the necessity of understanding contemporary sciences, which play an important role in effectively advancing the wheel of renewal because it leads to the development of thought and renewal, and improves the understanding and interpretation of the innovators.
