Some Obstacles Leading to the Low Academic Level of University Students in Light of Some Variables - A Field Study on a Sample of Sixth Semester Female Students in the Department of Islamic Studies at the Faculty of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies at Al-Asmariya Islamic University in Zliten

Abstract

This research aims to identify some of the obstacles contributing to the low academic performance of university students in the Department of Islamic Studies at the Faculty of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies, Al-Asmariya University in Zliten. The researcher employed a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing a questionnaire administered to a sample of 23 female students from the Department of Islamic Studies at the Faculty of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies, Al-Asmariya University in Zliten. The researcher concluded that the obstacles contributing to the low academic performance of female students—categorized into academic, personal, social, and economic obstacles—all fell within the 'moderate' range. Specifically, academic obstacles showed a mean score of 60.0%, personal obstacles 71.3%, social obstacles 76.3%, and economic obstacles 73.3%. The results also revealed statistically significant differences between the responses. The female students' attitudes toward obstacles are attributable to their general grade point average in secondary school; this reveals that students in the Department of Islamic Studies at the College of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies (Al-Asmariya University, Zliten) struggle with a significant deficiency in transitioning from the role of passive recipient to that of an active researcher.
